Why Hire a Paxil Recall Attorney?
The medication known as Paxil was first introduced to the market in 1991 as a prescription anti depressant. This medication has also been used in the industry to help those patients who are suffering from depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder and PMDD. This form of treatment was approved by the food and drug administration in 1992, and has since been shown to be one of the most effective ways to treat these disorders. Beginning in 2002, however, there have been shown to be severe side effects to taking the medication and several lawsuits have been brought against the maker and distributor of the medication, GlaxoSmithKline.
Since these problems had been found, there has been no recall for Paxil, but the FDA has released warnings, and requests that the medication not be taken by expectant mothers. The reason for this being that the effects can be minor to the person taking the medication, but the effects on an unborn baby can be quite severe. One of the most concerning side effects for the baby is high blood pressure. This can stay with the infant well into adulthood, and can cause them to have blood pressure problems their entire lives.
The makers of this medication, GlaxoSmithKline did not issue any warnings when they began their marketing campaign in 1991. The result of this is that there are many babies, which have been born with this condition and are now facing the rest of their lives with this condition. The makers also marketed the product as non habit forming, but many patients reported different side effects when they stopped taking the medication including more severe depression. Something else that makes the situation worse is that they chose to suppress their own research regarding the unfavorable effects. They chose instead only to release the positive information to the public.
Because of this, there have been many lawsuits against the company and many of them have settled. The reason that they are choosing to bring these suits against the company is the false advertisement of the medication. There is likely to be years of litigation ahead. If you or someone that you know have taken Paxil while pregnant, and have experienced these problems, you should seek legal advice, since you may be entitled to compensation.
